http://etscrs.submit4jobs.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=85332.viewjobdetail&CID=85332&JID=300394&notes_id=1

Program Description

AP Research Readers evaluate and score the students' academic papers, which are approximately 4,000 to 5,000 words in length. Research Readers are trained on a common rubric to evaluate students performance ensuring that students receive scores that accurately reflect college-level academic research and writing skills. AP Research Reader positions are available based upon course participation volumes, and the scoring event occurs annually for seven days in the month of June.
Readers will score AP Research Exams online from their homes. Applicants must own a computer and have an Internet connection, and agree to score from home. Flexible and part-time schedules are available over the seven-day Reading.
Submitting an application does not automatically constitute your employment as a Reader. Once your application is approved, you sign the offer letter, and your employment documentation is completed, we will add your name to the pool of qualified Readers in your subject. If you are selected to attend the Reading, you will be contacted by the Performance Assessment & Scoring Services Department in January or February.
In 2017, AP Research Readers must:
  • be able to score from secure home or office locations and have the necessary Internet-based scoring equipment (please note that these requirements are subject to change), as well as provide a phone number for use during the Reading. For security reasons, Readers cannot use shared office computers, or work in public areas where information may be accidentally viewed, i.e. airport terminal, hotel lobby, Internet cafe, etc.
  • provide equipment and are responsible for ensuring that all hardware is in good working order.
  • meet agreed-upon commitments to the scoring schedule and devote their full attention to the scoring process during each session.

Experience and Skills

AP Research Reader eligibility requirements:
Higher Ed Faculty:
AP Research Readers from colleges and universities must be active faculty members and teach a course specifically focused on scholarly research skills and methods or one in which students undertake a research paper employing an explicit methodological approach.  Faculty who provide undergraduate research opportunities and mentor students are also encouraged to apply.
High School Teachers:
AP Research Readers from secondary schools must currently teach the AP Research course in a face-to-face classroom setting.  Secondary school teachers with at least three years of teaching experience in courses specifically focused on scholarly research will be considered.
Supporting Documents
All applicants must complete the online AP Research Reader Application and submit a current resume highlighting the course that specifically focuses on scholarly research.
AP Research teachers are exempt from submitting a syllabus in the first year only.
Teachers who are not AP Research teachers may be eligible and would be required to submit a course syllabus to verify the course they teach is a scholarly research course similar to AP Research.
*Please note that certification is required to score for this assessment.
After your application is approved and you have completed the required hiring paperwork, the next step to be eligible to participate in scoring is to complete the certification process. Through the certification process you will train on and score sample responses to demonstrate your ability to apply a rubric consistently with program standards.
