The Einstein-First project is a nationally funded initiative led by The University of Western Australia (UWA) to modernise science education by introducing an Einsteinian physics curriculum from Years 3 to 10. In collaboration with major Australian universities, the project focuses on training teachers, evaluating student outcomes, and supporting STEM engagement across the country.

About the opportunity

Contribute to a nationally significant, ARC-funded project shaping the future of science education by advancing the Einsteinian physics curriculum across Australian schools.

Collaborate with leading researchers from UWA, Curtin, ANU, UniSQ, and Flinders, with potential travel and engagement across these institutions.

Lead meaningful impact in STEM education by training teachers, evaluating educational programs, and influencing student attitudes and career pathways in science.

Develop your academic career through mentoring and supervising postgraduate students, publishing in high-impact journals, and presenting at international conferences.

About you

A PhD in STEM or STEM education, with a strong research focus and evidence of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Strong research skills, including proficiency in qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods approaches, and the ability to analyse educational data.

Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and collaborative engagement across multiple institutions.

Capacity to mentor and supervise postgraduate students, manage multiple responsibilities, and contribute actively to the academic and strategic goals of the project and the School.

Experience in STEM education, ideally including teaching at the primary or secondary school level and familiarity with modern science concepts.

Position Description

The Texas State University Department of Physics seeks to hire a full-time Faculty of Instruction beginning Fall Semester 2025, with potential for continuing appointment based on mutual satisfaction. The primary duties of the position, along with applicant qualifications, are detailed below.

Our department offers baccalaureate and master’s degrees, with faculty doing research in the physics of materials, astrophysics, and physics education. Texas State is a comprehensive PhysTEC site with a thriving Learning Assistant program operating in multiple introductory courses. The Department of Physics is proud to serve a welcoming, equitable, and highly connected student community.

Primary duties of the position are instruction of introductory physics and/or astronomy courses. There are also opportunities to instruct upper division undergraduate and graduate courses where appropriate. Applicants will also have the opportunity to contribute to the development of undergraduate research and advanced coursework, and engage in advisement of student-led organizations and outreach activities.

The position is a 9-month contract and offers a competitive salary, with opportunities for summer teaching for additional pay, depending on the applicant’s interests and initiatives and on the department’s needs.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Physics, Astronomy/Astrophysics, Science Education, or a related field, with at least 18 semester credit hours in graduate-level physics or astronomy.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Physics, Astronomy/Astrophysics, Science Education, or related field.

Previous experience teaching at the college level.
