Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) develops educational opportunities for many of the most eager students in the world. Since 2003, we have trained tens of thousands of the country’s top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, learning centers, textbooks, and online learning systems. Over the years, our international online community of advanced problem solvers has grown to nearly 700,000 members. While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, we have started expanding into new subjects, such as language arts, physics, and computer science.
The physics team at Art of Problem Solving is building a comprehensive suite of courses to introduce students to physics. Our courses will let students explore both the content of physics and the ways physicists think as they build models. We have already built two successful advanced problem solving courses for our online school and an introductory mechanics course for our learning centers. Now we seek a new teammate to help us build a complete, ground-up curriculum that will appeal to the curious students who always want to know more.
Students taking these courses will be challenged to:
- Collaborate with peers throughout the learning process
- Build, test, and revise models for physical phenomena
- Use those models to solve creative and difficult problems
- Apply concepts they’ve learned to new contexts
- Balance and interleave the roles of intuition, empirical evidence, and mathematical analysis
You’ll be a great fit for this position if:
- You have a personal vision for physics education that is coherent with the AoPS philosophy
- You have led curriculum development projects with documented success
- Your track record shows you inspire students to dive deeper into physics
- You have expertise in helping students solve rich, complex physics problems in a way that leaves them energized and empowered
- You can leverage your experience into working on our AoPS Online and AoPS Academy classes, writing material for both middle and high school students
In this position, you will collaborate with the rest of our curriculum team to:
- Take the lead on developing new physics courses on topics such as mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics, both with and without calculus.
- Create labs that teach fundamentals of scientific practices, including model-building, communication, collaboration, data analysis, and experimental design.
- Interact with students through teaching online courses, fostering conversations on our message boards, and potentially working with students in person at our learning centers.
Background Check:
Please note that employment is contingent on the successful completion of a background check.
