Part-time Assessment and Evaluation Specialist at the University of Missouri


The MU Broader Impacts Network is seeking to fill an opening for an assessment and evaluation specialist to work with faculty and staff on their science outreach and broader impacts activities. The MU Broader Impacts Network is associated with the Office of Science Outreach, which is part of the MU Science Education Center.

Duties would include, but not be limited to:
· Consulting with faculty in regard to designing and implementing assessment tools for their science outreach/broader impacts activities.
· Providing training in assessment and evaluation for faculty and staff.
· Providing direction and support for assessment  and evaluation of the science outreach/broader impacts network model.
· Attending national and regional assessment and evaluation meetings.
· Building a broader impacts database and cataloging broader impact activities at MU.
· Coordinating across like programs for collaborative assessment and evaluation  opportunities and designing a suite of common assessment  and evaluation surveys for broad use or adaptation.
· Seeking out existing assessment and evaluation tools appropriate for science outreach/broader impacts projects and share with BIN staff and PIs.

Qualifications:
·       Master’s level preferred.
·       Prior experience with qualitative and quantitative assessment and evaluation a must.
·       Familiarity with computers including word processing and database management.

Specifics:
·       Salary Range: $18-20/hour.
·       Effort: 20-28 hours/week (temporary, non-benefits-eligible)
·       Start Date: August 1, 2012

Lecturer at Christopher Newport Univ.

The Department of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering at Christopher Newport University has an immediate opening for a Lecturer in Physics.  Appointment on a nine-month, renewable contract begins August 20, 2012.  Salary is competitive. The University is seeking teacher scholars who are committed to undergraduate education in a liberal arts curriculum, and who want to engage students in creative intellectual challenges.  Our exemplary group of faculty integrates high quality teaching and significant research involving undergraduates and supports the further development of our graduate program.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach physics and/or astronomy lecture and laboratory courses.  Evidence of an active scholarly program in physics or astrophysics, while not required, is highly desirable. Effective oral and written communication skills are required.  A Ph.D. in Physics by August 1, 2012, is required for appointment at the rank of Lecturer.  An appointment at the rank of Instructor requires at least a Master’s degree in Physics or Engineering by August 1, 2012.

The New York Hall of Science, New York City's only hands-on science museum is hiring a curriculum designer/project manager to work in the SciPlay department.  SciPlay is a new applied research center on Play, Science, and Technology Learning. SciPlay designs and studies how to use play as a medium for science learning across both informal and formal education settings. The curriculum designer will serve to design hands-on, technology-based science curriculum grounded in pedagogical research and best-practices in informal science education. Manage consultants and coordinate work of internal and external collaborators and project staff. Manage day-to-day project needs including recruitment of teachers, coordination of curriculum piloting and implementation and teacher professional development. The Department of Physics seeks applicants for a Clinical Assistant Professor position who will serve as our Director of Entry-Level Physics Instruction. This position is a long-term, non-tenure-track faculty academic year appointment with faculty rank and promotion based on experience and productivity. The position, which will begin in Fall 2012, requires a Ph.D. in physics with a specialization in Physics Education strongly preferred. The Director will be responsible for teaching algebra and calculus-based introductory physics courses and coordinating the delivery of several large enrollment physics courses offered every semester. Other responsibilities will include the training of graduate teaching assistants in pedagogical methods used in recitation instruction of large physics courses, and oversight of Physics Learning Center facilities. Lecturer an University of Waterloo
