Postdoc at Florida International University

The Physics Education Research Group and the College of Engineering and Computing at Florida International University seek a Postdoctoral Researcher for their Office of Naval Research project. The successful candidate will be part of a thriving, multidisciplinary research group, and will oversee two primary project activities: (1) the development and implementation of scaled-up Modeling Instruction classes (2) the implementation of a learning assistant program with mentoring support in the College of Engineering. The ideal candidate will be flexible, reliable, and organized, with excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively and to participate cooperatively in a close-knit research team.

Specific duties include:

Faculty at Bard High School Early College

Postdoc in PER at Georgetown

The Department of Physics at Georgetown University is seeking a post-doctoral fellow in
Physics Education Research to start in fall 2012. Georgetown Physics has been an early
implementer of numerous PER methods, including the Tutorials in Introductory Physics
and Peer Instruction and is working to include PER in more courses in the curriculum.
The responsibilities will include some teaching as well as assessment of curricular and
programmatic changes in the department's courses and degree programs and involvement
in our efforts to revise our introductory courses. The researcher will also be encouraged
and supported in carrying out additional PER research according to their professional
interests. Interaction with nearby groups in PER at the University of Maryland is possible,
and has been done in the past with a previous fellow. The fellowship can be held for up to
three years with annual reappointments based on mutual agreement between the fellow

Lecturer at UT-Austin

The Department of Physics is seeking candidates for a non-tenure track Lecturer position from 8/15/2012 through 8/15/2013.

This position consists of a nine-month, non tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Lecturer and a three-month summer administrative appointment for a total of 12 months of support.The position is renewable on an annual basis depending on job performance and class enrollments.

Duties include teaching of an introductory physics course using the "Matter and Interactions" curriculum (matterandinteractions.org), the development of innovative new course materials including computational modeling exercises, interactive class exercises, homework problems, and test problems, and the coordination of several sections of the course. The Lecturer will also help train and coordinate the graduate Teaching Assistants and the undergraduate Learning Assistants associated with the course.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in physics and teaching experience are required. Previous experience with the Matter and Interactions curriculum is preferred.

Postdoc in Science Ed at U Buffalo

The University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York, seeks a Postdoctoral (Research) Associate in science education. The Postdoctoral Associate will join the research team of an NSF funded project to establish a comprehensive Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Partnership between UB and Buffalo Public Schools (UB/BPS ISEP) targeting middle and high school science and technology, with a focus on strengthening teacher professional development in science and engineering. The Postdoctoral Associate will focus on studying science teachers' development of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in interdisciplinary science inquiry as a result of participating in intensive summer research at UB and professional learning communities (PLCs) involving university STEM and STEM education faculty and students, school administrators and teachers, and parents. The successful candidate will be expected to become a full participant in the project (i.e. observing teacher summer research, organizing pedagogical support workshops and sessions, collecting and analyzing data related to teacher development of interdisciplinary science inquiry PCK, and presenting and publishing articles that emerge from the research), and work with and assist in the mentorship of graduate students involved in the project. The Center for Science Teaching and Learning is a teaching, research, evaluation, and curriculum-resource center and a professional development provider for science teachers and pre-service students across the NAU campus and for K-20 science teachers and informal educators statewide. The Director will oversee various programs in the Center including professional development programs, graduate programs in science education, and teaching certification programs including the NAUTeach program which the successful candidate will Co-Direct. The Director will also sit on the university’s Professional Education Unit Coordinating Council and will oversee the implementation of the science programs’ assessment plans and the reporting of student learning outcomes to the university and to the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
