The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates to fill a tenure-track position in physics/astronomy education research.
Candidates must exhibit unusually high promise for excellence in both teaching and physics education research. The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally visible program in physics education research and interact with the current physics education research efforts in the Department of Physics and Astronomy as well as other departments at Michigan State University. The Department of Physics and Astronomy and Michigan State University are dedicated to excellence in teaching and have pioneered physics education innovations such as LON-CAPA.
Candidates are also expected to teach physics or astronomy courses in the Physics and Astronomy Department, including graduate courses in physics or astronomy education and have significant experience in the field of physics education research.
Faculty hired for this position will work closely with the Institute for Research on Mathematics and Science Education (IRMSE), administered jointly by the Colleges of Natural Science and Education. The Institute provides support for faculty from the Colleges of Natural Science and Education to engage in collaborative research. The Institute was formed in 2010 with the goal of becoming a nationally recognized hub for research, policy and leadership in mathematics and science education, aiming to encourage and support projects that address the teaching and learning of science and mathematics at the university and K - 12 levels. We expect to fill this position at the assistant or associate professor level but a higher level will be considered in an exceptional case.
Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy, physics or astronomy education, or the equivalent.
