Postdoc in Science Ed at U Buffalo

The University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York, seeks a Postdoctoral (Research) Associate in science education. The Postdoctoral Associate will join the research team of an NSF funded project to establish a comprehensive Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Partnership between UB and Buffalo Public Schools (UB/BPS ISEP) targeting middle and high school science and technology, with a focus on strengthening teacher professional development in science and engineering. The Postdoctoral Associate will focus on studying science teachers' development of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) in interdisciplinary science inquiry as a result of participating in intensive summer research at UB and professional learning communities (PLCs) involving university STEM and STEM education faculty and students, school administrators and teachers, and parents. The successful candidate will be expected to become a full participant in the project (i.e. observing teacher summer research, organizing pedagogical support workshops and sessions, collecting and analyzing data related to teacher development of interdisciplinary science inquiry PCK, and presenting and publishing articles that emerge from the research), and work with and assist in the mentorship of graduate students involved in the project. Qualifications for the position: PhD in science education or a related field at time of appointment. The ideal candidate will have expertise/experience in: (a) science teacher knowledge and professional development; (b) advanced qualitative research design and implementation; (c) adequate knowledge or relevant experience in urban education. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with K-12 teachers and university STEM faculty and students. The candidate must be able to work independently as well as be collaborative and participate cooperatively in a diverse research team.

Salary: $39,000/year plus benefits
