Non-TT at University of Illinois Springfield

The Astronomy-Physics Program at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) seeks applications for a non-tenure track instructor in physics. UIS offers calculus-based introductory physics for chemistry, pre-med, and other health science majors. The successful candidate must have a minimum of an MS in Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry or a closely related field completed before August 14, 2012; documented experience teaching introductory calculus-based physics and a background that demonstrates excellence in physics pedagogy. Responsibilities include: teaching introductory calculus-based health science physics (with laboratory) at the undergraduate level; developing a new physical science with lab course for the general education curriculum; and assisting with operation of the campus astronomical observatory. Lecturer at University of North Carolina

Lecturer at University of Toronto

Astronomy Lecturer and Outreach Director at University of Oregon

The University of Oregon Physics Department is seeking qualified applicants for a combined position as an Astronomy Lecturer/Education and Public Outreach (EPO) Director to start in summer or fall of 2012. The minimum teaching expectation is 4 classes per academic year (three terms on a quarter system); the remaining balance of time is allocated to EPO activities. The applicant will have PI status and is expected to successfully seek grants to support EPO and K12 professional development activities. Additional summer term salary can be supported through these efforts.

The initial appointment will be for a period of 3 years and, pending satisfactory performance, is renewable. Kennesaw State University (KSU) is seeking applicants for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Chemistry Education in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Colby College invites applications for a tenure-track position in physics and astronomy, beginning September 1, 2012. We seek applicants with a commitment to excellence in both research and teaching at the undergraduate level. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or physics, and post-doctoral and teaching experience is preferred. The Chair’s mandate is to conduct research and

McGill University seeks to fill a tenured/tenure-track position
to support a major commitment to enhancing science educa-
tion. This appointment, which is for a joint position in the Fac-
ulty of Education and the Faculty of Science, is one in a series
of recent hires in mathematics and science education. In col-
laboration with the recently appointed colleagues, the person
occupying this position will be expected to develop a nationally
recognized research program in science education with a view
to attracting and mentoring undergraduate and graduate stu-
dents who will contribute to enhancing the teaching of science
at all educational levels.

Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in educa-
tion with a minimum of a Bachelors degree in a field of science
or a Ph.D. in a field of science (physical, earth, life, or natural

nificant topics in science education
• a demonstrated record or potential for attracting external
funding in science education

• expertise in the teaching of both science content and peda-
gogy

Duties will include teaching graduate and undergraduate
courses that promote the scientific and pedagogical aspects of
science education, both in the Faculty of Science and the Facul-
ty of Education; mentoring graduate students in science edu-
cation research; and collaborating with colleagues in teacher
education, science and mathematics education, and the sciences
at McGill.
