The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for a Director of Interdisciplinary Science Instruction, to begin in fall 2012. The position is open-rank. The successful candidate will receive an appointment in a home science department. A joint appointment to a second program, department, or college is also possible, depending on the candidate's background.
Position Description
The successful candidate will lead the development of a signature science experience that will utilize the University of Delaware's new state-of-the art Integrated Science and Engineering Laboratory (ISELab, www.udel.edu/iselab). The ISELab, slated to open in Fall of 2013, is a $140 million, 194,000 square-foot facility, designed to integrate teaching, learning, and research, with the research providing content for the curriculum and students learning through exploration of real-world problems. The faculty director is expected to have a well-established reputation in STEM education, and will work with faculty to develop and implement a new introductory science curriculum intended to become a national model for innovative science education. Applicants should have an interest in promoting the academic success of all students, particularly under-represented students majoring in STEM disciplines.
Qualifications Required
Applicants must hold a PhD in a STEM related field. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong record of leadership in active learning strategies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the integration of laboratory and classroom curricula.
