    East Carolina University (ECU), the third largest campus in the University of North Carolina system, is creating an exciting new teacher preparation and STEM pedagogy collaborative, designed for the purpose of: 1) Increasing the quantity and quality of secondary and middle grades science teachers, while also enhancing the core science content knowledge of elementary and special education teachers; 2) Improving the recruitment and retention of students into the natural sciences by developing and implementing best practices in pedagogy for introductory-level science courses; and 3) Creating a nucleus of cross-college collaboration in science education. PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, provides expert technical assistance to the A & S Physics Department of the PI in carrying out its laboratory and/or studio teaching program.
Background:
The Laboratory Technician reports to the Head of Physics but also works under direct supervision of the faculty members responsible for the physics laboratories and studio rooms.
Part of the mission of the Physics Department is to provide effective service courses in support of the engineering programs of the PI. These programs prepare graduates for successful professional careers in ADNOC and its companies and other sponsors. To this end the Physics Department maintains physics labs featuring cutting-edge laboratory teaching equipment. The experimental programs complement the theory lessons taught in physics courses. The Laboratory Technician plays an important role in support of the laboratory and/or studio teaching program.
Position Description:
The successfully candidate will be expected to:
Teach assigned physics laboratory sections under supervision of physics faculty and lab engineer(s)
Prepare demonstration experiments, set up the necessary equipment and either carry out the experiments or assist instructors to do so
Receive and install teaching equipment
Assist in the design and planning of laboratory experiments or exercises and ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures and policies. Duties may include writing laboratory materials
Provide technical support for experimental equipment, including troubleshooting and solving problems, coordinate with other PI Service Departments and initiate requests for major repairs, if necessary
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
BSc in physics (or equivalent technical area)

The Division of Science at Minot State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Science Education. This appointment will be at the assistant professor level starting Fall 2015. A doctoral degree by time of appointment is preferred, but an ABD nearing completion of the doctoral degree may be considered. We seek someone with a background specializing in Science Education who is also qualified to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the science disciplines, preferably physics. The professional background should include at least three years teaching experience at the middle school or secondary (7-12) grade level and the candidate must have familiarity with science teaching methodology for candidates at the K-6 grade level. Teaching expectations include methods courses for both elementary and secondary education students, supervision of secondary-level student teachers, and involvement in a Master of Arts in Teaching: Science program; and may include undergraduate science courses in one’s specialty as deemed appropriate.
Applicants for the position should demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and active engagement in research and scholarship. Research expectations include development of an active research program that would ideally include studies involving undergraduate students as well as graduate students in our Master of Arts in Teaching: Science program. Astro VAP at Swarthmore College

Swarthmore College, a selective liberal arts college just outside Philadelphia, is seeking an astronomer interested in teaching small classes of enthusiastic students as a visiting assistant professor, beginning in fall 2015. The position is for two years, with the second year contingent on good job performance. The Physics and Astronomy Department at Swarthmore has seven physicists, two astronomers, and roughly 15 students per class year in the physics or astrophysics majors. The college and the department value committed, excellent teaching. The teaching load is two classes and one lab, or two labs and one class, per semester, mostly in introductory and upper-level astronomy. Members of the department are active researchers and involve students in their research.
