Representative Duties and Job Characteristics:
1. Demonstrate ability to teach Physics, including lectures and laboratories;
2. demonstrate ability to teach calculus-based Physics, and non-calculus-based Physics enthusiastically to a variety of students;
3. demonstrate ability to teach Astronomy, including the Solar System, Stars, and Galaxies;
4. ability to design and implement innovative teaching methodologies in the above-mentioned fields, including lectures, laboratories, and computer assisted delivery methods;
5. commitment to interacting and working successfully as a team with science instructors, laboratory technicians, and other colleagues;
6. qualified to design and implement current physics and astronomy laboratory techniques, including computerized laboratory exercises;
7. ability to develop curriculum in emerging areas of physics and astronomy;
8. ability to contribute to the total operation of the instructional program including Department, Division, and College responsibilities;
9. ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form;
10. ability to adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles, a variety of teaching modalities including distance learning, and use of technology;
11. participate in campus professional activities, which include, but are not limited to: committee membership, curriculum development, faculty and staff meetings, and community outreach;
12. ability to teach late afternoon, evenings, weekends, distance learning, and/or off-campus classes, when scheduled, as part of the regular teaching assignment;
13. ability to seek and support personal creativity and professional growth and demonstrate career objectives consistent with the mission of Las Positas College.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Master's degree in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics OR bachelor's degree in physics or astronomy AND master's degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics OR the equivalent.

Minimum Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Master's degree in music OR bachelor's degree in music AND master's degree in humanities OR the equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Upper division and/or graduate level coursework in Physics and Astronomy.
2. Experience in designing and conducting laboratory experiments and/or activities in Physics and/or Astronomy.
3. Ability to use a variety of telescopes and to locate celestial objects.
4. Ability to advise students regarding transfer options, degrees, and careers related to physics, astronomy, and STEM.
5. Ability to recruit and support under-represented groups including women and students of color to STEM majors.
