Intro Physics Lecturer, University of Tennessee Knoxville

 Engineering Fundamentals (EF) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking multiple dynamic and innovative Lecturers to contribute to its first-year engineering program.  Each position is a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable, 9-month appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer based on previous experience.  There is future opportunity for additional funded teaching in the summer and collaborative research in engineering education. EF is the home of the engage program, an integrated and team-taught first-year curriculum that is responsible for teaching nine credit hours of common coursework for all Tickle College of Engineering first-year students. Positions are available in our introductory level physics or computing (e.g., Excel and MATLAB) courses. Engineering Fundamental courses incorporate the engineering design process, technical communication, teaming, perspectives of the engineering profession, and student success related topics. Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or physics
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A solid commitment to innovative teaching methods (both traditional and technology enabled)
  • Demonstrated interest in first-year engineering and/or computing education
  • Rank-appropriate college-level teaching and/or industry experience
  • Ability to promote an environment where every individual has an equal opportunity to contribute, learn, and participate in a global community

Preferred:

  • PhD in engineering, computer science, or physics
  • Degrees in Engineering Education or Physics Education
  • Experience in managing student design projects
  • Interest or experience in makerspace or prototyping equipment, programmable robots or development boards
  • For one (1) position: interest or experience in front-end and back-end web application development and administration
