The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of New England, Biddeford Maine, invites applications for a physics lecturer effective September 1, 2010. Candidates must have at least a Masters in Physics or related field, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. The position includes 18 contact hours of instruction (three studio physics sections each meeting 6 hours weekly). Preference will be given to candidates with experience or training in guided inquiry techniques such as Modeling Instruction, CPU Project, PRISMS, PHYSlab or Workshop Physics.
Facilities and Approach:
We use the modeling approach to physics instruction (modeling.asu.edu) adapted and implemented for use in the algebra-based college physics environment. The brand new Morgane Hall houses our two state-of-the-art physics labs each with a capacity of 24 students. Each lab has eight stations - three students/computer, Vernier LabPro interfaces, a range of probes, and LoggerPro software. 24 lab activities have been developed to cover the approximately 26 weeks of physics instruction.
