Applications are invited for a post-doctoral researcher in
physics education research (PER) in the Cornell Physics Education Research Lab
(CPERL: cperl.lassp.cornell.edu) through the Laboratory for Atomic and Solid
State Physics and Physics Department at Cornell University.
Job description:
The CPERL currently has research projects focused on laboratory
instruction and assessment development, with additional projects evaluating
impacts of active learning, faculty and teaching assistant development, gender
and diversity, and the role of hands-on versus simulation and virtual reality
in learning. The successful candidate will pursue independent and group
research projects in physics education research, preferably within this
research portfolio. There is no specific grant or project associated with this
position.
CPERL is a growing research group at Cornell. There are a number
of new graduate and undergraduate students involved, as well as participating
faculty. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to mentor and work
with many individuals, including teaching them about the history, methods, and
culture of PER.

Time commitment: Prefer full-time, but will be flexible for the
right candidate
Length of appointment: Annual contracts renewable up to 3 years
Preferred qualifications include any of the following:

Ph.D. in physics (or
science) education research, physics or astronomy, or closely related field
·
Experience with
relevant literature and education research methods: expertise in qualitative or
quantitative research methods would be relevant
·
Ability and desire to
work collaboratively, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and to also work
independently and pursue one’s own research questions
·
Enthusiasm to learn
new methods, bodies of literature, etc.
·
Strong writing, project
leadership, time management, and communication skills
