Position Title: Physics Teaching Faculty
Job Description: The successful candidate will become part of the departmental teaching faculty team, which currently consists of six full-time teaching faculty members.  The team has primary responsibility for delivering the two-semester introductory calculus-based physics sequence using a hybrid-studio approach.
In the introductory studio, faculty work with graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants to coach students through a combination of hands-on activities, problem-solving practice, and other computer-assisted lessons.  In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to other parts of the undergraduate Engineering Physics core curriculum and be a leader for educational innovation in the department and the larger campus. Additional responsibilities include training and supervising teaching assistants, departmental and campus committee service, and advising. Additional opportunities include contributing to our teacher preparation program, which has the potential to be one of the nation’s top producers of high school physics teachers.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have earned a doctoral degree in physics or a related field by August 2019.  The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a teaching team.  It is essential that candidates have a thorough understanding of (and preferably experience with) modern, research-vetted teaching practices.

Located in Golden, in the foothills of the Rockies, 13 miles west of Denver and 21 miles south of Boulder, Mines has enrollment of over 5000 students in undergraduate and graduate degree programs in engineering and applied science. Annual research funding exceeds $60M. The Department of Physics is housed in the new CoorsTek Center for Applied Science and Engineering building, which is at the center of campus and has several new classrooms that are available to apply interactive and innovative teaching techniques.

The Department of Physics offers an ABET-accredited undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The program typically graduates between 50 and 60 majors per year. The department encourages and supports innovation in teaching and learning and has developed effective methods of instruction at the introductory and advanced levels. Starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
