The Department of Physics invites applications for a full-time Lecturer to commence July 15, 2021; the majority of the teaching associated with this position will occur at SFU’s Surrey campus. We are searching for an individual with a passion for teaching and communicating physics to undergraduates and the public and a colleague with an interest in working in a collaborative team-based environment. The Department of Physics engages a faculty complement consisting of 5 teaching-focused and 25 research-focused faculty members. We have strong undergraduate and graduate programs, and a commitment to public outreach. Our research strengths are concentrated in the areas of condensed matter, biological physics, particle physics and cosmology, AMO physics and quantum information science. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to our undergraduate program in a variety of ways including coordinating undergraduate labs, teaching lecture and studio courses, training and mentoring teaching assistants, participating in outreach activities, and showing leadership in undergraduate physics education. They will demonstrate willingness and openness to the creation of an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics and should have a marked interest in and demonstrated ability for teaching at the undergraduate level. A minimum of two years’ experience as a physics instructor at the post-secondary level with duties including curriculum design and teaching assistant supervision is preferred. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and communicating physics to the public through outreach events, outstanding communication skills, and enthusiasm for new course and instructional laboratory development. The successful candidate’s teaching and service track record will illustrate our shared values of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and our commitment to respectful interactions with all students, staff and faculty.
