Description | The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) at the University of New England invites applications for a full-time, one-semester, non-tenure-track faculty position in Physics at the rank of Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor, to begin January 10, 2022. Responsibilities | Teaching responsibilities will primarily be in the year-long General Physics sequence teaching student-centered studio physics sections. The School provides instruction to a wide range of life and health science majors and seeks to connect relevant biological content to a physics concept foundation of mechanics, fluids and waves. The sequence uses modeling physics instruction with activities adapted and implemented for an “Introductory Physics for the Life Sciences” (IPLS) approach. |
Qualifications | A Master’s degree in Physics or a closely-related field is required by time of hire. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics are preferred. Individuals with experience and/or training in physics education research, guided inquiry techniques (such as modeling instruction), and/or teaching introductory physics for life and health science majors are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will have experience in, and a demonstrated commitment to, promoting and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational and work environment consistent with the University’s core value. |
