The University of Georgia (UGA) seeks a postdoctoral associate to join an ongoing effort to promote meaningful evaluation of teaching for promotion and tenure. The position is part of an Inclusive Excellence 3 learning community cluster funded by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. UGA is focusing on three areas of effective and inclusive teaching: advancing teaching evaluation policy, building faculty capacity to give and use feedback to improve teaching, and building individual and unit-level capacity to use evidence to improve and document teaching effectiveness. The position will be supervised by Dr. Erin Dolan (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology) and will involve close collaboration with the rest of the project team, Dr. Tessa Andrews (Genetics), Dr. Peggy Brickman (Plant Biology), and Dr. Paula Lemons (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Office of the Dean of Franklin College of Arts & Sciences), with input from advisors in key units on campus such as the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Office of Institutional Diversity, and the Office of Instruction.

This position will involve a combination of practical and research activities focused on building capacity for evaluation of teaching. The postdoctoral associate will gain experience in faculty and administrator development, coaching, and consultation; evidence-based methods for teaching evaluation; ethical uses of student data to improve instruction; social science research methods; and theory and practice related to institutional change. The postdoctoral associate will be able to shape the direction of their research with mentorship from and in collaboration with the project team. The postdoctoral associate will also have opportunities to interact with a vibrant group of faculty, other postdoctoral associates, graduate and undergraduate researchers, and professional staff as part of the Biology Education Research Group (BERG) and Scientists Engaged in Education Research (SEER) Center at University of Georgia, with an option to gain college-level teaching experience in a discipline of interest.

Candidates must have: (a) a Ph.D. in a STEM, STEM education, or other relevant social science discipline (e.g., higher education, organizational psychology, evaluation), or closely related field; (b) a record of peer-reviewed publication; (c) demonstrated interest in educational evaluation or discipline-based education research; (d) demonstrated interest in facilitating professional development, coaching, and consultation with faculty and administrators; and (e) demonstrated capacity to manage projects, including collecting and analyzing data and disseminating results. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with teaching evaluation, knowledge of theory and practices related to institutional change, familiarity with using multiple data sources to improve instruction, experience coaching or consulting with faculty and/or administrators, and capacity to work effectively in diverse, cross-rank, cross-disciplinary, and cross-institutional teams.

This position is full-time with a flexible start date as early as May 2023 and no later than September 2023 with the possibility of renewal for up to five years. Candidates should electronically submit a 1-page cover letter indicating their interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for three professional references. The salary is $60,000 with associated benefits. Review of applications will begin March 1 and will continue until the position is filled.
