 The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time, limited-term lecturer for introductory physics instruction beginning August 1, 2023.  This is a non-tenure track faculty position. The Department, which currently has 24 faculty members, has a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.  Candidates should show a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and demonstrate potential to enhance teaching pedagogy.  The person hired will teach six courses per academic year, primarily in the Department’s general physics programs.

 The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with teaching and learning initiatives on campus including the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to Advance Teaching & Learning Cluster, the Scientists Engaged in Education Research Center, and the Artificial Intelligence for STEM Education Center.

 Qualifications:

All candidates must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in physics or a related discipline at the time of job offer.  We also seek candidates who have knowledge of and/or a record of employing inclusive and evidence-based instruction, and who have demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in science and education.

Application materials will include: (1) a brief cover letter summarizing the applicant’s teaching experience; (2) a complete curriculum vitae; (3) a teaching portfolio (8-page maximum); and (4) a supporting document listing contact information for 3 references.  The teaching portfolio may include evidence of effective instruction, examples of the use of evidence-based and inclusive teaching strategies, descriptions of efforts to develop and improve as a teacher, and sample teaching materials (e.g., a syllabus or an assessment).  Further, an explicit description of the applicant’s actions and experiences as they relate to diversity, equity, inclusion and/or justice within their scholarly and/or teaching activities must be included as part of the teaching portfolio.
