The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Georgia State University (GSU) seeks to hire a lecturer to teach undergraduate courses beginning Fall 2024. This is a non-tenure track (NTT), full-time, 9-month/year faculty position with opportunity for promotion to the ranks of Senior Lecturer and Principal Senior Lecturer. The standard teaching workload is 7-8 courses per academic year (Fall and Spring semesters). Teaching opportunities are also generally available in the Summer semester (June-July) for supplemental pay. Lecturers in the department have opportunities to participate in professional development, university-level teaching fellowships, and mini-grants through the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Online Education (CETLOE). The department seeks individuals motivated in developing quality undergraduate education using effective, evidence-based teaching methods. Essential Qualifications
- A PhD in astronomy, physics, or a closely related field.
- Ability to teach introductory courses in astronomy and/or physics at both the algebra and calculus level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using active learning methods at the college level.
- Experience and knowledge of best practices in science education.
- A demonstrated history of departmental and public service.
- Ability to design and teach hybrid or online courses.
