FT Astro Lecturer, University of Vermont

 LECTURER IN ASTRONOMY, ASTROPHYSICS AND INTRODUCTORY PHYSICS


The Department of Physics at the University of Vermont (UVM) is inviting applications for a full-time Lecturer position (1.0 FTE) to teach astronomy, astrophysics, and introductory physics courses. This position is set to commence in the fall semester of 2024 for an initial two-year contract. The position is open-ended, subject to periodic review for reappointment. We are seeking a dedicated educator who has a proven track record of effectiveness in undergraduate science education and is well-versed in recent advancements in physics and astronomy education.


Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching introductory astronomy, upper-division astrophysics courses, and introductory physics courses to support the astronomy minor and astrophysics concentration of the physics BA. This full-time position will have a load of 4 course equivalents per semester (note that some courses, such as large enrollment classes can count as more than 1 equivalent), as well as a small service component (attending faculty meetings and joining one committee). While candidates with expertise in astrophysics or astrophysics instruction are of particular interest, we also welcome exceptional candidates with expertise in any area of physics so long as they also excel in teaching astronomy and astrophysics. A Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a related field is expected.

The Department and College

The Department of Physics is housed within UVM’s College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences; including the new STEM complex equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.
