Job Summary
The lecture instructor will teach a combination of physics lecture and lab classes each week, develop teaching and testing materials for classes and work with existing and develop new community service projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in physics
  • College teaching experience
  • Knowledge of general classroom and lab equipment, computers and computer software including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications Doctorate in physics
Essential Functions
  • Will be employed as a faculty member fulfilling all faculty responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy 02:01:01 including teaching a minimum of 15 LEH (Combination of lecture & lab) per long semester
  • With the Division Dean, help to schedule and staff physics lecture and lab classes
  • With the Division Dean, help to prepare a recommended budget for the department, recommend purchases of equipment and supplies, maintain and control use of equipment and supplies
  • Recommend textbooks and instructional materials to be used in the instructional program
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum; lecture and lab curriculum are to supplement each other
  • Assist with educational counseling and program advising of students
  • May be asked to assist with writing and development of proposals seeking funds or property for the Physics Department
  • May be asked to coordinate with appropriate Midland College personnel to recruit new physics students; work to increase enrollment in the Physics Department
  • Stay current with trends and innovations in the field
  • Maintain professional status through classroom participation, organizational memberships, advanced study, publication and/or community related service
  • Help to orient new full time and part time faculty
  • Serve as a resource person to the college and professional and educational communities
  • Maintain academic records as required by the college, accreditation agencies, and law
  • Successfully teach academic courses in the Physics Department as evidenced by student evaluations and grade distributions
  • Develops goals and objectives for the department
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by Midland College
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift lab equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to work in various classroom/lab settings
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • Ability to speak clearly
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Travel for trainings or meetings may be required
Min Salary: 45,802 per year Max Salary: 57,931 per year
Pay Statement
Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
