The Department invites nominations and applications for the position of Regular,
Limited-Term Instructor or Assistant Professor.

Within this setting, the Department of Physics
offers a variety of studies in the fields of Physics and Astronomy
leading to a Bachelor of Science in Physics, a Bachelor of Arts with a
major in Physics, or a Master of Science in Applied Physical Sciences
degree. Our majors graduate well prepared for a career in physics
whether it be in industry, a professional degree such as medicine or
dentistry, teaching physics in the high school, or to pursue an
advanced degree.
Position Description. Reporting to the Physics
Department Chair, the limited-term Instructor or Assistant
Professor in Physics will be responsible for a workload of 15 hours per
semester in teaching core physics courses for majors and non-majors,
and other duties as specified by the Physics Department Chair. All
limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year
appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the
possibility of reappointment should funding permit and based upon
satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one year
basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
Required Qualifications for Regular, Limited-Term Instructor:
Earned
master's degree in
physics, or closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester
hours in Physics, by August 1, 2017. Evidence of commitment to
teaching; ability to teach undergraduate physics courses and
laboratories; ability to work with diverse populations; and effective
communication skills in spoken and written English. Must be authorized
to work in the United States for the duration of employment without
assistance from the institution.
Required Qualifications for Regular, Limited-Term Assistant Professor:
Earned
doctorate in physics, or closely related field with at least 18
graduate semester hours in Physics, by August 1, 2017. Evidence of
commitment to teaching; ability to teach undergraduate physics courses
and laboratories; ability to work with diverse populations; and
effective communication skills in spoken and written English. Must be
authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment
without assistance from the institution.
Screening of
applications begins June 1, 2017, and continues until the position is
filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2017. A
