Job Summary:

The Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in biophysics at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August 2022.

The successful candidate will be joining a department that is deeply committed to engaging undergraduate students in high-impact educational experiences through teaching, research, and mentoring. The physics program currently exists primarily as a service discipline, offering algebra- and calculus-based introductory sequences to biology, chemistry, math, and computer science majors, as well as several topical general education courses for non-science majors. A physics minor was recently developed, and the department is looking to increase interest among, and research opportunities for, the growing population of biology and biochemistry students through the development of a biophysics minor, with the long-term goal being the creation of a biophysics major.

Required Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

1)      Teach undergraduate physics courses, including lecture and laboratory sections in the General Physics sequence taken by biology majors

2)      Develop a biophysics minor, as well as improve the introductory curriculum and existing physics minor in close collaboration with physics faculty, while coordinating with faculty from biology, chemistry, math, and computer science

3)      Develop and maintain an active research program in biophysics that conducts original research for publication and involves FDU undergraduate students

4)      Develop institutional grants

5)      Engage in service at various levels, both at FDU and professionally

Qualifications:

1)      Candidates for this Assistant Professor Tenure-Track position must have a Ph.D. and will begin teaching no later than the Fall 2022 semester.

2)      Candidates with research experience in biophysics, or a closely related discipline, are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given highest preference.

3)      Candidates should have a strong interest, demonstrated ability, and commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

4)      Candidates should share our values of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and our commitment to respectful interactions with all students, staff and faculty.

5)      Postdoctoral research experience is preferred, but not required.

6)      A record of grantsmanship is preferred, but not required.

7)     Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.  Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.

Applicants must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching and research statements and provide three references.
