The Division of Natural Sciences of the University of Maine at Farmington invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2022.


Teaching duties include physics courses for biology, environmental science, geology, and secondary education science majors, supporting UMF's programs focused on sustainability, the environment, and Maine's aquatic and forest ecosystems. UMF has a strong historical focus on teacher training, so the successful candidate will also collaborate with secondary education faculty, particularly in helping to teach the science methods course for preservice middle school and high school teachers. The remainder of the teaching load will be devoted to general education physics courses for nonscientists. We expect the faculty member to develop a research program consistent with the resources available at UMF and to involve undergraduate students in this research. The faculty member will also engage in service activities such as academic advising and serving on university committees.


This position reports to the chair of the division.


Qualifications:


Required: This position will require a Ph.D. in physics or a related discipline and also a background in education, with a master’s degree in education a plus, as well as a background or interest in environmental / climate physics is a plus.


Preferred: Experience in both classroom and online teaching preferred.
