Grade UE08 (£43,414 - £51,805) or UE09 (£54,949 - £61,823) per annum
School of Physics and Astronomy - Physics Education Research Group
Open ended, Full time - 35 hours per week
The Edinburgh Physics Education Research Group was formally established 12 years ago, building upon the longstanding tradition of teaching innovation and development in physics at Edinburgh. The group is amongst the most established PER groups in UK higher education and has been forefront in a number of national initiatives.
With this position, we aim to bring an outstanding educator and PER researcher to join the School. We seek a highly creative researcher who will set up an original and ambitious research programme which enhances our understanding of teaching and learning in physics and astronomy. Previous research interests of the group have included flipped classroom pedagogies, development of student problem solving skills, student epistemologies, and student-generated content. However, the position is open to researchers in any area of PER. The successful candidate will also be an outstanding educator who could contribute excellent delivery of teaching to a broad range of courses across the School.

The appointment will be at either Lecturer (UE08) or Senior Lecturer (UE09) level, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.

Your skills and attributes for success:
PhD in physics, astronomy, or a closely allied area
Experience in and commitment to excellent teaching
Experience in research
Established profile in Physics Education Research specifically
Ability to develop research proposals and win support for them
Ability and commitment to work with research students and/or postdoctoral researchers
Excellent communication, presentation and organisational skills.
