Description

The Department of Physics at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applications for the Director of Undergraduate Laboratories. This appointment would be a faculty position as Assistant Teaching Professor, but candidates with sufficient experience will be considered at a senior level. Carnegie Mellon University has teaching-track faculty with the titles of Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, and Teaching Professor. These non-tenure-track faculty positions are considered career positions that are not temporary, but with the expectation of reappointment and promotion.

The successful candidate will oversee and facilitate our undergraduate laboratory program at all levels of instruction. Responsibilities include: teaching several courses each semester; training new instructors and graduate student teaching assistants; overseeing the purchase of both routine lab supplies and capital equipment; supervising laboratory staff; curriculum development and innovation; and generally contributing to the active intellectual environment of the Department of Physics.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics and experience teaching experimental physics at the university level. The Department of Physics is part of a College and University that is proactive to include more members of previously under-represented groups and seeks especially candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. The successful candidate will support the learning and development of a diverse body of students, including physics majors and non-majors, and will foster an inclusive learning environment for all students.

A faculty appointment in the Teaching Track is expected with a start date no later than January 1, 2024.
