The Mount Holyoke College Physics Department invites applications for a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level, to begin Fall 2010.
We seek an experimental physicist with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to the development of a vigorous, on-campus, externally-funded laboratory research program involving undergraduates. The position is open with regards to specialty, but candidates with interdisciplinary connections to biology or materials science are especially encouraged to apply. Excellent facilities and technical support for research are available on campus, as well as access to a state of the art clean room at the nearby University of Massachusetts.
Mount Holyoke College is an undergraduate liberal arts college for women with 2100 students and 210 faculty. It is located about 80 miles west of Boston in the Connecticut Valley, and is a member of the Five College Consortium, consisting of Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts. Mount Holyoke is committed to fostering multicultural diversity and awareness in its faculty, staff, and student body and is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and people of color are especially encouraged to apply. The campus has grown increasingly diverse over the past fifteen years; half of the faculty are women and one quarter are persons of color. Among our students, approximately 22% are domestic students of color and 18% are international. We in the Physics Department value inclusiveness and strive to broaden access to the discipline. We particularly encourage people who share these commitments to submit their applications.
Applications, including a cover letter addressing the candidate’s reasons for interest in Mount Holyoke, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching experience with emphasis on approaches to teaching undergraduates, a research plan involving undergraduates, and the email addresses for three individuals who will be submitting written letters of recommendation should be submitted online at http://jobsearch.mtholyoke.edu. We ask that applicants incorporate relevant background experience or proposed strategies for mentoring a diverse student body into their materials. For further information please contact Prof. Janice Hudgings, jhudging@mtholyoke.edu. Review of applications will begin October 1, and will continue until the position is filled.
