VAP at Lock Haven University

The Lock Haven University Department of Geology and Physics invites applications for a full-time, temporary faculty position at the Assistant Professor/Instructor level in Physics to begin August 25, 2012 ending January 11, 2013. Anticipated appointment level is Instructor Step 1 or 2 for the successful candidate with out a terminal degree or Assistant Professor Step 2 for the successful candidate with a terminal degree. Essential Duties: Primary Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate physics courses and laboratories. This position may require development and teaching of courses online. Specific Duties: Teach general education laboratory science courses. There is also the opportunity to engage undergraduate students in interdisciplinary research. Existing facilities include sculptured film deposition system, thermal evaporator, a bench top sputter coating system, a spin coater, a profilometer, an impedance analyzer, and I-V measurement system, a fluorescence spectrometer, a scanning electron microscope (SEM), a scanning tunneling microscope (STM), an atomic force microscope (AFM) and a fluorescence microscope. Minimum Qualifications (Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Master’s degree in physics or related area is required. The successful candidate must be able to communicate well and/or perform well in an interview or teaching demonstration and successfully complete the interview process. Preferred Qualifications: A doctoral degree in physics or related area is preferred. Physical Demands: Lifting and moving undergraduate laboratory equipment.
