Associate Professor - Science Education University of Arkansas at Little Rock Tenure Track Associate Professor, Position R99502 The Department of the Teacher Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member as a Science Educator in Teacher Education at the rank of Associate Professor to begin Fall 2012. Candidates must have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and must possess a record of innovative research in science education. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will; serve as Co-Director of the UTeach replication site; teach courses in science methods as part of the UALR teacher education programs in Early Childhood, Middle Childhood and Secondary Education; participate in planned collaborative efforts involving both the College of Education and the College of Science & Mathematics teacher education efforts; advise and supervise field experiences for students seeking licensure in the Life and Physical Sciences, establish and maintain an externally funded research program in science education that involves graduate and undergraduate students, lead and participate in professional development for science teachers that supports innovation in science curriculum and teaching in ethnically diverse urban and rural schools, collaborate with university science educators and faculty at the University to promote excellence in science teaching and learning in pK-16 education, and provide service to the University and schools in the region. Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in Science Education (ABD will not be considered) with an academic background in the Biological/Physical Sciences from an accredited university: college and pk-12 teaching experience, and documented record of scholarship in the area of science education commensurate with the rank of associate professor. Preferred/Desired Qualifications: The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to obtaining external funding for research and/or teaching; a history of developing and leading professional development activities for science teachers; experience working collaboratively with schools or community groups particularly in urban and ethnically diverse settings; experience in developing/working with university and school partnerships; experience with the NSTA SPA accreditation process; and demonstrate the ability to use technology effectively in and outside of teaching.
