Position Description
The Department of Physics at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Physics Education Research (PER) beginning Fall 2018 at the assistant professor or associate professor level.

Applicants are expected to establish or continue a strong record of publication and scholarship, to pursue external funding as well as to actively engage in both individual and collaborative grant activities, to provide service and leadership to the department, college, university, and PER community, and to teach and mentor students. Graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring assignments are dependent on the background of the individual and the needs of the department.

Required Qualifications
For the rank of assistant professor or associate professor:
1. Doctorate degree in physics, science education, or related field. Applicants who do not hold a doctorate in physics must have a minimum of 18 earned graduate-level physics credits.
2. An established record of scholarly activity in PER.
3. Expressed interest in teaching diverse students at undergraduate and graduate levels.
4. Evidence of, or potential for, obtaining external funding for research.

Additional required qualifications for the rank of associate professor:
1. Six years experience in a university-level, tenure-accruing position. Exceptional candidates with experiences outside academia will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
2. Strong evidence of high quality research in physics education.
3. Evidence of success in obtaining external funding.
4. Evidence of effective teaching.

To be considered for the rank of associate professor, the candidate must meet the requirements for that rank at Texas State University.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Teaching experience in undergraduate physics.
2. Experience using research-based instructional strategies for physics, especially the Learning Assistant model.
3. Research area that complements and broadens existing PER in the department.
4. Experience in PER beyond the doctorate level.
5. Experience directing student researchers in PER.
