The faculty member is responsible for teaching a variety of courses including:
-Physics
-Physical Science
-Astronomy
In addition, faculty members are expected to stay current in their disciplines and in teaching methodologies, implement changes in instruction based on assessment results, maintain reasonably distributed office hours, develop and revise curriculum, participate in a variety of college committees and task forces, participate in community service activities, and advise students as appropriate.
This nine-month term appointment is scheduled to begin August 2009. This position will be filled contingent upon funding.
A minimum of a master's degree in physics or astrophysics is required. Experience teaching college-level physics, including calculus-based physics, is required; experience teaching physical science and astronomy is preferred; experience teaching in a community college setting is preferred.
Candidates should have demonstrated ability to incorporate student learning outcome objectives within courses and to assess these outcomes; demonstrated ability to teach a range of physics/physical science/astronomy classes using a range of teachings strategies; and effective communication skills. Candidates will be asked to validate teaching experience.
