The Post-compulsory and Secondary subject group (PCASO) houses one of the largest and most successful Secondary ITT programmes in the UK. This programme has students enrolled on flexible PGCE, 1 year PGCE, 2 year PGCE, 3 year BSc and 2 year BSc courses leading to QTS in 11 different subject areas. With excellent working relationships with regional Local Authorities, schools and colleges we are working in partnership to enhance educational achievement across the region and to promote inclusion. We are currently seeking a well-qualified and enthusiastic Senior Lecturer to make a significant contribution to our innovative work in science education, with specific expertise in chemistry or physics, and to engage with the wider work and aspirations of the Secondary team within the subject group. There is an active and diverse research culture, with staff involved in the delivery of a range of contract research activity for both private organisations and public sector organisations. We are committed to the promotion of excellence in learning and teaching and in using ICT tools and virtual learning environments innovatively in pedagogy across all of our work.
We seek those who can contribute to and take a significant role in modelling good practice in the teaching of science and science education on our undergraduate and PGCE courses in science.
The person appointed should be able to take a lead in some or all of:
Pedagogical developments in science (chemistry or physics) education, including use of ICT to support teaching and learning
Partnership with schools and colleges
An active research group
Curriculum development
Inclusion and diversity in science education
There are also opportunities to play a role in the prestigious Teach First programme as a professional or subject tutor.

Continuing professional development programmes for teachers and school support staff
Curriculum development
General Professional Studies in Education
For the post above, you will have an honours degree or equivalent plus QTS. In addition, you will have relevant teaching experience in a school or college. You will have contributed to curriculum development and /or CPD activity in your subject area and to the support of student teachers and/or NQTs. You will be familiar with reflective practice and the management of change in educational settings. Whilst we do not expect applicants necessarily to have a significant research record, we are looking for those who understand how engagement with research can impact upon practice, and who are keen to develop their own research skills. We welcome applications from underrepresented groups and are happy to consider any of these posts as secondment opportunities for experienced teachers who wish to become more significantly involved in initial and continuing teacher education. The post is based at our City campus.
