Director of Research Development at Old Dominion University

Development/Research: Applications are invited for the Director of Research Development at the Old Dominion University Office of Research. The main responsibility is to identify, facilitate, stimulate, and support the formation of large-scale multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary, inter-college, and multi-institutional research proposals. The Director will assist university faculty in developing and writing competitive, high-quality proposals, oversee design, development and production of introductory and advanced workshops on proposal writing and grantsmanship, and provide editorial assistance on proposal construction including interpretation of proposal guidelines. The Director will provide assistance and consultation to the Vice President, interface with external entities on the Vice-Presidents's behalf, interact with faculty researchers, research centers, and other research staff in interpreting federal guidelines, laws and management issues related to grant and contract administration, and coordinate grant-writers. The ideal candidate for this position will have a Master's degree preferably in science, engineering or health sciences; a doctorate is preferred, a track-record in team-building skills, a knowledge of the inner workings of funding agencies such as the NSF and NIH and foundations, and demonstrated ability to direct and manage the grant writing and submission process.
