TENNESSEE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY
Two Faculty Positions
Tennessee Tech University's Department of Physics has openings for two tenure-track Assistant Professors starting August 2014. The Department offers high quality programs leading to a B.S. degree in Physics which emphasizes undergraduate research experiences. The university is located in Cookeville, midway between Nashville and Knoxville, just 90 miles west of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
We seek candidates with a Ph.D. degree in physics (or equivalent), strong research credentials, and excellent pedagogical skills including good command of spoken and written English. A strong commitment to both undergraduate education and the involvement of undergraduates in research is required. Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred. The research subfields are open. The Department has existing strengths in nuclear physics and physics education research. Teaching will include introductory service courses and labs, some of which are being taught in a studio format, and upper division physics courses. Both of the successful candidates will be expected to include computational
applications in upper division lecture courses.
For one position, we seek an experimentalist capable of teaching advanced laboratory courses. For the second position, we seek someone capable of developing and teaching a computational physics course. All applicants must apply online at www.tntech.edu/jobs and will be required to electronically upload a cover letter; a curriculum vitae; copies of all transcripts (official transcripts for all degrees conferred required upon hire); a statement of teaching philosophy addressing computational physics plans; a summary of proposed research including opportunities for undergraduate involvement; and names and email addresses of three professional references who will be contacted via email to provide letters. Applicants wishing to be considered for both positions must apply for both. To ensure full consideration, all materials must be received by January 15, 2014; open until filled. AA/EEO
