Position Description:
The Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Iowa invites applications for one to two academic year tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant or associate professor in Science Education and STEM with an elementary or secondary focus beginning August 2016 or a negotiated start date.


We seek one to two individuals with evidence of significant professional promise or accomplishment in research that impacts the areas of science education and the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).  The successful candidate will teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses and pursue research with a program that emphasizes a strong agenda on teaching and learning in science classrooms or STEM.


Responsibilities


The successful applicant will continue a robust disciplinary and interdisciplinary research program in science education and STEM education; design and teach undergraduate/graduate courses in science education and STEM education with a commitment to online offerings; and advise MA and PhD students.  In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to pursue and secure external funding, participate in the activities of professional organizations, and be involved with state and national activities that support the practice of science education and STEM education.
Education Requirement:
Prospective candidates must have earned a doctorate in science education or a related field by August 2016.

The College of Education is searching for a qualified and experienced math or science content specialist with teaching experience and/or expertise in addressing content at elementary grade levels.
The appointment consists of but is not limited to teaching a broad range of elementary education courses that include school visits during associated field experiences as well as developing specialized math or science content matter programs emphasizing research in practice and social justice. This is a full time tenure track joint appointment in the Departments of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Education and Inclusive and Integrated Education (IIE).

The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics Education (STEAM) is a newly formed department at the College of Education with the focus on developing future educators that are competent in teaching interdisciplinary approaches grounded in research and practice. The department offers initial licensure programs: one at an undergraduate level with a dual major focus in art, music, health exercise science and education and one at a graduate level with a focus on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science and Mathematics in secondary education.



The Department of Inclusive and Integrated Education (IIE) offers a variety of opportunities for caring and dedicated undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate students to pursue initial certification as early childhood or elementary teachers as well as an endorsement as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities. In addition, the department offers graduate programs that provide advanced study in curriculum and teaching, including the M.Ed. in Teacher Leadership, the M.S.T. in Elementary Education and the M.A. in Special Education program. The M.A. in Learning Disabilities program is also offered for students interested in pursuing certification as a Learning Disabilities Specialist. The department is committed to fostering student growth as instructional leaders who have a developmental perspective, cooperative disposition, and reflective orientation and are committed to the principles of access, success, and equity for all students. Qualifications: 

Required 
• A terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in math or science education or related field
• A Bachelor or Master’s degree in math or science content
• Meet minimum qualifications for licensure or equivalent to teach grades P-6 in New Jersey
• Experience teaching in P-12 settings.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering academic achievement, social and personal responsibility, and social justice through innovation in elementary math or science education
• Demonstrated experience working with underserved populations in inclusive settings
• Demonstrated commitment to furthering seamless inclusion of elementary math or science education into teaching and learning particularly in the P-6 environment
• Familiarity with current teacher accountability requirements and best practices in elementary math or science education

    Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Science Education Research and Evaluation

    The National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS) requests applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Science Evaluation, pending final authorization for availability of funds. The Fellowship is for two years at an annual stipend of approximately $51,000, full University of Tennessee employee fringe benefits including retirement and health care plans, and an annual travel allowance of $3,000 for attendance at professional meetings or to meet collaborators. For applicants with a spouse/partner with appropriate background to be associated with a university academic department, NIMBioS will provide a limited cost-match to the department to encourage an appointment in the unit for the spouse/partner.
    This Fellow will assist in development and evaluation of a Quantitative Biology Concept Inventory (QBCI) to assess the impact of biological constructs and examples on student quantitative comprehension. The Fellow will have primary responsibility for all aspects of data collection, coordinating focus groups and obtaining professional review of QBCI.     Postdocs at Oregon State

    The Department of Teacher Education (TED) in the College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Science Education with appointment beginning August 1, 2016. The TED in CEHS is known for its extensive school partnerships, innovative programs, and its commitment to the principles of the National Network for Educational Renewal (NNER).
