The James Madison University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a full-time non-tenured faculty position beginning August 2010 at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek outstanding candidates with an earned Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field. The term of appointment is for two years.
The department has 21 full-time faculty members and ~110 students in our multi-track baccalaureate-only program. A demonstrated record of quality instruction of physical sciences at the undergraduate level is required. The successful candidate is expected to be an effective teacher at all levels of our physics curriculum, including courses for non-science majors. Duties may include conducting general physics or electronics laboratories. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to pursue research that can be performed with upper-level physics majors.
