A preceptorship in Physics associated with the introductory courses Physics 15a, 15b, and 15c. These courses cover mechanics, electromagnetism, and waves, at a level appropriate for undergraduate concentrators in Physics. The position is a twelve-month appointment with the possibility of renewal up to eight years. Working closely with faculty and staff in the Department of Physics, this preceptor oversees all aspects of small-group instruction in both the laboratory and discussion section components of these essential courses. Manages the teaching of a new initiative, “Principles of Scientific Inquiry,” that introduces students to the skills required for independent research in physics. Supervises and trains a staff of teaching fellows. Acts as the primary liaison between instructional staff and the laboratory support team. Coordinates with faculty to prepare innovative course materials including problem sets, examinations, and hands-on laboratory exercises. Possible part-time status considered.
Required Education:
Ph.D. in a Physics or closely allied field with proven experience teaching undergraduate students in science. Superior organizational, written and interpersonal communication skills are key. Ability to lead and train teaching fellows and to develop innovative instructional materials. Experience in designing problem sets and laboratory exercises strongly preferred. Salary range 45-50K/year.
