The Department of Physics at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a one-year visiting faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing in August 2011. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field. We seek a physicist with a genuine interest in teaching and liberal arts education. We are open to all research areas. There is a possibility the position could be extended for a second year.
Applicants should send their curriculum vitae to, and arrange to have three or more letters of reference sent to: Search Committee, Department of Physics, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, 300 Pulteney Street, Geneva, NY 14456. Ideally at least two of the letters of reference should speak to the applicant's teaching ability. Other forms of evidence of teaching ability are also welcome, along with statements describing the research interests of the candidate, including projects that could engage undergraduate students, as well as the candidate's approach to teaching. Review of applications will begin no earlier than March 18, and will continue until we have filled the position.
