Instructor at Bowdoin College

Bowdoin College seeks a dynamic, self-motivated, and innovative person to teach laboratory sections of our intermediate "Electric Fields and Circuits" course, and to manage electronic equipment and lab spaces in its Physics Department. He or she will also teach laboratory sections for introductory physics as needed. This is a three-year position with the possibility of renewal. Technician responsibilities include maintaining, organizing, and repairing electronics equipment in the department; developing new electronics equipment as needed; and supporting analog/digital interfaces of research electronics. Lab instructor duties include coordinating laboratory setup and implementation; supervising students during lab sections; evaluating student performance in labs; and working with the faculty to coordinate labs with lectures.

Requirements: The successful candidate will have a B.S. degree (M.S. strongly preferred), excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving abilities, and an ability to provide individual and group instruction with a sensitivity to different learning styles. A minimum of 2 years of experience with electronic support and/or teaching laboratories is essential. Position begins July 1. This is a full-time during the academic year and part-time during the summer.
