Laboratory Supervisor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst

The Physics Department at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, invites applications for a Director of the Physics Teaching Laboratories. This is a Lecturer-level, non-tenured, faculty position with the possibility of both long-term employment and eventual promotion to Senior Lecturer. The preferred starting date for the position is September 1, 2011. An advanced degree in Physics is desired but candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics or a closely related field with suitable experience will also receive full consideration. Minimum starting 12-month salary will be $59,300. The position will be filled contingent upon University funding.

The Teaching Lab Director supervises one full-time staff person and is responsible for scheduling, setup, and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and rooms for all lower-level undergraduate physics laboratory courses. The Director also supervises and helps train graduate teaching assistants to teach lab sections, provides academic oversight of lab courses, and develops new laboratory course materials.
