TT at University of Michigan - Dearborn

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Michigan-Dearborn invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in astronomy beginning September 2013.  A Ph.D. in astronomy, physics or a closely related field and a commitment to teach the full range of undergraduate astronomy courses is required.  The development of an active research program that will involve undergraduate students and attract external funding is expected.  Start-up funds are available.  A willingness to contribute to the use and development of our 0.4-meter telescope is expected.  An observational astronomer is preferred and postdoctoral research and teaching experience are desirable.  UM-D is primarily an undergraduate institution.  It offers an astronomy minor within the physics discipline and counts three astronomers among its eight physics faculty lines.  The University of Michigan is a partner in the MDM Observatory at Kitt Peak, Arizona and in the Magellan telescopes in Chile.  For more information, visit http://www.casl.umd.umich.edu/naturalsciences/.  Candidates should submit a resume, a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, a description of research plans and achievements, including an explanation of how undergraduate students will be involved in research, the names and contact information for three references, and an unofficial graduate transcript.  The complete application should be emailed as a single PDF file to natsci-facultysearch@umd.umich.edu.  Please include “Astronomy Faculty Search” in the subject line.  The review of applications will begin December 1.
