VAP at St. Lawrence University

St. Lawrence University invites applications for a visiting position (potentially renewable for up to three years) at the assistant professor level to begin August 2013.  We have a strong preference for a person with a Ph.D. in an area of experimental physics whose research is related to environmental or energy physics (ABD candidates may be considered).  The successful candidate will develop and teach a yearly course related to environmental physics aimed at the nonscience student as well as teach introductory, intermediate and advanced level courses in the physics curriculum as appropriate.  The ability to teach mathematical methods of physics and quantum mechanics is preferred.  Applicants should have a deep commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment.  In return, we are committed to helping our junior faculty members develop effective teaching skills. Interested candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Dr. Catherine Jahncke, Search Committee Chair, Physics Department, St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY 13617.  In addition we request a statement of teaching philosophy and a description of research interests including how the candidate could involve undergraduates in their research.  Review of applications will begin February 1st, 2013 and continue until the position is successfully filled.
