Physics Lab Manager/Technician
Job Description Summary:
Manage physics stockroom and lab facilities, be responsible for
weekly physics labs including supervising TAs, fix broken equipment,
design and fabricate new demos and labs, assist faculty and students
with research projects, manage lab budget and purchasing
Specific Duties:
• Organize general physics laboratory and stockrooms
• Set up and take down weekly physics and astronomy labs
• Preparation of lecture demonstrations for physics, astronomy and physical science
classes
• Work with faculty to develop and fabricate new experiments and demos using the
electronics shop and machine shop
• Test, maintain and repair equipment including laboratory apparatus, meters,
oscilloscopes, function generators, lasers, vacuum systems, etc.
• Maintain an updated laboratory inventory
• Purchase equipment and supplies and manage the laboratory budget.
• Supervise teaching assistants for physics labs
• Maintain clean and organized lab spaces, shop and work areas
• Maintain computer software on laboratories containing PCs and Macs
• Develop and administer physics demonstration website
• Oversee machine shop safety and implement safety training
• Assist faculty and students with experimental research projects utilizing a research-
grade electromagnet, power supplies, vacuum systems, lasers, fluid experiments, and a
high speed video camera
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in physics, astronomy, engineering or a related
field and two years of professional experience involving laboratory work
OR a graduate degree in physics, astronomy or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with one or more of the following: electronics, digital
data acquisition platforms such as LabView, Matlab or Arduino, robotics,
machine shop tools, CNC milling machines, 3D printers, vacuum systems,
lasers, high-speed video imaging.

75%
Location: La Verne Central Campus
Work Schedule:
Some evening labs. 11 month-contract.
