Degree and area of specialization:
Minimum of M.S. in Physics or physics-related field required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Previous experience teaching physics or a closely related field at the College/University level. Previous experience using active learning methods, working in learning center(s) a plus. Ability to work with students with many different cultural backgrounds and academic needs required.
Principal duties:
40% - Provides small group supplemental instruction for introductory physics students participating in the Physics Learning Center; includes twice weekly teaching sessions with students and review sessions.
20% - Supervises undergraduate Peer Mentor Tutors and leads course training meeting.
8% - Monitors student performance and maintains records on student data, performance, and attendance.
7% - Coordinates with the course faculty and teaching assistants.
10% - Coordinates with the Physics Learning Center staff and director.
10% - Participates in weekly Physics Learning Center training seminar.
5% - Meeting with Physics Learning Center participants individually on an occasional basis.
Additional Information:
This fixed-term terminal appointment ends 05/25/14 but may be extended or become renewable depending on funding and the needs of the Department.
A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
A period of evaluation will be required
