TT at Westminster College, Salt Lake City

Westminster College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Physics to begin in August 2016. The 24-credit annual teaching assignment will include lower-division courses for both majors and non-majors, along with upper-division courses in physics and potentially astronomy. We are willing to consider candidates with expertise in any area of Physics who demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and a commitment to liberal arts education. We particularly seek candidates with expertise in Astronomy or Astrophysics, as well as candidates who have a strong interest (and ideally, experience) in teaching using methods developed and supported by Physics Education research.

We seek colleagues who are prepared to facilitate the learning of all students, including those from groups underrepresented in higher education (such as students of color, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, and first-generation college students). As part of our work to promote diversity in STEM fields, we are the only post-secondary institution in the state of Utah awarded grant funding by the US Department of Education to host the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program. Additionally, we were selected in a national competition to participate in the Teaching to Increase Diversity and Equity in STEM (TIDES) Institute of the Association of American Colleges and Universities. 
 The Physics Program has a strong commitment to teaching, interdisciplinary work, and undergraduate research. We are housed in the Meldrum Science Center, which opened in 2010. A LEED platinum certified buildingthis facility provides integrated research spaces and classrooms designed to foster high-impact learning practices.  Minimum qualifications:  
Ph.D. (completed by August 2016) in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, or related area, and successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level. 
 Preferred qualifications:
Expertise in Astronomy, Astrophysics and/or successful teaching using methods developed and supported by Physics Education research.
