Postdoctoral Scholar in Instructional Technology & Design

The College of Education at the University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar who will lead the re-development of educational materials for training employees of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
In partnership with content experts from NASA and support from Teledyne Brown Engineering, the interdisciplinary design team will work under the direction of the postdoctoral scholar and with advisement from UNLV Education, Engineering, and Fine Arts faculty on-site in Huntsville, AL. The project will focus on developing am innovative educational delivery system to provide training to NASA personnel affiliated with the International Space Station. Team members from the Colleges of Engineering and Fine Arts will provide computer science and graphic design expertise, while the postdoctoral scholar is expected to contribute project oversight and expertise in the design of instructional materials and delivery via educational technologies.

The specific responsibilities of the post-doctoral scholar include (1) Planning and managing the selection and implementation of technologies for design & delivery of project materials (2) Applying principles from the cognitive, educational, and learning sciences to the redesign of existing instructional materials to improve their effectiveness (3) Coordinating development of materials by fine art & computer engineering team members (4) Writing reports documenting progress towards products (5) Testing the effectiveness of instructional materials.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess (1) a PhD in educational psychology, learning sciences, science education, or a related field as well as (2) emerging expertise in the areas of educational technology, principles for instructional design, and (3) proof of U.S. citizenship. The candidate should be proficient and have a solid background in cognitive principles of learning and instruction, an awareness of design standards for instructional technology, and a record of successful project management.

The ideal candidate will have a record of mentorship, experience leading or managing externally-funded projects, good interpersonal skills, and experience working in collaborative environments. The candidate should have demonstrable interest in research related to learning and cognitive sciences such as intelligent tutoring, online education, educational technology, and/or knowledge and skill acquisition. Additional desirable qualifications include: (1) portfolio of educational design products (2) experience with the design and delivery of instruction via learning management systems (3) online instructional experience in post-secondary settings.

Target start date: October 1, 2015, although the exact start date is negotiable.

Compensation:
•       $45,000 for a 1-year appointment, plus benefits (offered by UNLV).
•       Subsidy to provide housing for the duration of the project.
•       Partial support for project-related travel.
