Brief Description:
Great Basin College seeks a broadly trained Physics instructor to join our dynamic, interdisciplinary Science Department at the main campus in Elko. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Physics, but as teaching excellence is the primary requirement, candidates with backgrounds in closely aligned disciplines are encouraged to apply. Primary teaching responsibilities will include: Non-majors Physics and Astronomy; Tech-prep Physics; Algebra and Calculus based Physics for Science and Engineering students (PHYS 100, AST 101, PHYS 107, 151 & 152, 180 & 181). This position is in support of our BS in Biology, BA in Secondary Education, and transfer students in science and engineering. Secondary teaching responsibilities may include: Non-Majors and Majors Chemistry; Applied Mathematics & Science; Integrative Science Seminars; with the potential for upper division Mathematics. Applicant must be able to teach both live and distance education classes to a diverse mix of traditional and non-traditional students. This is a full-time, 9 month, tenure track position at Great Basin College’s main Elko campus, located in rural northeast Nevada. The start date will be in August, 2017.
Qualifications:
-M.S. degree. -Experience teaching physics at the post-secondary level. -Ability to teach with distance education technologies including interactive video, online and live/online hybrids. -Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
-Research experience -Ph.D.
