HHMI Interdisciplinary Science Fellow

Vassar College seeks applications for an HHMI Interdisciplinary Science Fellow position beginning Fall 2010.

Vassar College is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and is strongly and actively committed to diversity within its community. Applications from members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged.

We seek candidates with strong interdisciplinary research skills who are interested in gaining experience teaching in a liberal arts environment. The one-year Fellowship (with possible extension to a second year) includes a teaching load of 2-3 courses per year at the intermediate or advanced level and the opportunity for various research collaborations. The Fellow will serve as a resource for science faculty and students interested in computational or integrative research projects; be involved in student projects and collaborate with faculty; and help drive faculty development in cutting edge, interdisciplinary research. We offer a competitive salary, an ample supplies budget, and laboratory space, as well as access to a parallel computing cluster dedicated to the analysis of large datasets.

Applicants with a PhD in a scientific field who are at any stage of their career are invited to apply. Background in computational methods applied to the sciences is highly desirable. Applicants who are early in their careers can be paired with a senior faculty member to serve as a professional mentor.

Located in the scenic Mid-Hudson Valley, Vassar College is a highly selective, residential, co-educational liberal arts college. Vassar is strongly committed to fostering a community that reflects the values of a liberal arts education and to promoting an environment of equality,
inclusion and respect for difference. Vassar College is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer, and applications from members of historically under-represented groups are especially encouraged.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, representative reprints, a statement of research interests and goals, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, and three letters of reference.
