Bard College invites applications for a one-year teaching position in Physics, field open at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning immediately in the fall of 2011. The primary requirements are a PhD in any area of Physics and a commitment to excellence in science teaching in a liberal arts setting. In addition, candidates should demonstrate active engagement in research, preferably experimental work, and an interest in working closely with faculty members across the sciences on issues of research and curriculum development. In the fall semester, the successful candidate will teach a multi-section laboratory course on optics for non-scientists with the content of the course open to adjustment; the levels and topics of courses for the spring semester will be determined jointly by the department and the candidate. There will also be opportunity to offer advanced tutorials and supervise student research during the academic year.
